The city of Brotherly Love welcomes warm weather with open arms as it means lots of amazing things to do in the city. From beer gardens, arts and craft fairs, festivals in all parts of the city and more there is plenty to do! Here is our warm weather guide to Philadelphia to help you make the most of this warm weather season!
Parks on Tap
April 24th – September 29th
**Location changes each week depending on date
Parks on Tap is a program that brings roaming beer gardens to parks throughout the entire city of Philadelphia! The program brings food, drinks, and camaraderie to various parks Wednesdays through Saturdays from the end of April through the end of September. The best part of Parks on Tap is each week the location changes to a different park in the city. This gives you a chance to get outside and check out parks in all different neighborhoods before the cool weather comes in!
Free Yoga on Race Street Pier
April 19th – November 12th
Race Street Pier: N Christopher Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia
Race Street Pier sits underneath the Ben Franklin Bridge making it a beautiful spot to slow down and enjoy a yoga class. You will find classes every day of the week and Monday through Thursday hosts both a morning and evening class depending on your schedule. Nothing is better than a beautiful, outside spot to get your yoga on without the hefty price tag! At the end of the class there is an opportunity to pay what you want if you feel inclined. Not to mention you definitely don’t need to be a yoga queen to participate, you will see people of all levels!
Travel Truth: Bring your own yoga mat or towel as you will literally be doing yoga on the pier which you probably don’t want to lay directly on. However, it really is such a good ambiance and worth trying even just once!
Philly Free Streets
August 3rd, 8 am – 1 pm
North Broad Street: From City Hall to Broad & Butler
Philly Free Streets is an amazing program that shuts down main streets for people to walk, bike and run on within the city. On August 3rd from 8 am – 1 pm North Broad Street, from City Hall to the intersection of Broad and Butler, will be closed for pedestrians to rule the usually busy road. Get out and enjoy this section of North Broad from North Philly all the way down to City Hall!
Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival
May 1st – June 30th
Franklin Square: 200 N 6th Street, Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival has become a staple spring event at Franklin Square. Boasting impressive Chinese lantern displays, the illuminating structures are best visited after sunset to get the full experience. This year is expected to include numerous new structures as well as a few more interactive displays for visitors. You will also find food options as well as the Dragon Beer Garden to sit and grab a drink.
Travel Truth: Tickets to the Chinese Lantern Festival are a bit pricey. We have been twice and were impressed both visits, however, as it gains in popularity so does the admission price. If you are a student or senior we recommend bringing ID to get a discounted ticket!
Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest
May 10th – September 1st
101 S. Christopher Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia
For the warm weather the Blue Cross RiverRink area transforms into its Summerfest. Here you will find a roller skating rink, Ferris wheel, mini golf and other games to enjoy the warm season. Replacing the winter lodge you will find a water inspired spot to sit and grab food or drinks.
Philadelphia Beer Gardens
Spring – Fall
**Throughout the city- be sure to look up the specific beer garden for information on hours and location
The city has done an amazing job throughout the last couple of years of hosting more and more beer gardens. Some you will find are more crowded than others but all provide an opportunity to get outside and enjoy yourself! Our favorites include the Oval, Independence Beer Garden and Bok Bar.
- The Oval is located in the green space across from the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Enjoy a drink or a snack from one of the many food trucks in this spacious, outdoor oasis. The Oval opens for the 2019 season on July 19th and usually only lasts for about a month so take advantage!
- Independence Beer Garden is definitely one of the more popular beer gardens in the city but provides a really good spot to grab a drink with friends and enjoy the outdoors! Theres plenty of options for seating as well as games such as corn hole to play.
- Bok Bar, located in South Philly, is a really unique spot! It is located on the roof of an old school building. The atmosphere is really cool in itself added with the incredible views of the city from the roof make this a must see! This is definitely a spot worth checking out even though its a little farther from the city center.
Spruce Street Harbor Park
May 10th – September 29th
301 S. Christopher Colombus Boulevard, Philadelphia
Spruce Street Harbor Park is one of the city’s best outside parks! Here you will find hammocks and tons of other cool lounging options including floating seating on the Delaware River. This is seriously one of the coolest spots, day or night, to check out so we highly recommend! You will find plenty of drink choices as well as food offered in shipping-containers to continue the theme throughout the area.
Travel Truth: You can easily check out both the Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest and Spruce Street Harbor Park in the same afternoon or evening!
