Tip #1: Don’t Forget Sunscreen
Depending on what time of year you are going, definitely toss some sunscreen in your bag for the day just in case! We both got sunburnt after walking around the island for a couple of hours. Also the boat may or may not be covered on top so you may be sitting in the sun on your way to and from the island.
Tip #2: The Majority of the Island is Ruins
The island is small with many ruins to see throughout, however, other than that there is not much. The only other accessible building is a small museum with exhibits inside as well as bathrooms.
Delos island is a historical landmark and is not full of stores and gift shops like Mykonos. The entire point of going to Delos is to experience the history of the island, and see the ancient Greek ruins. Plan ahead and bring everything you think you will need such as snacks and water. Also, because there are very little structures (aside from the ruins) there is not much shade on the island. Don’t forget tip #1 and wear something you will be comfortable wearing for the day.
Tip #3: Bring Water
Go ahead and bring a water bottle before leaving Mykonos to guarantee you have some with you for your time on Delos. Even if you are not going during the hot summer months, you will appreciate having water while walking around. It is also nice to have on the boat ride as it can get a little rough at times when the sea changes.
Tip #4: There is NO shade
Like we mentioned above you will be in the sun all day. Bringing sunglasses or a hat is a good idea to protect yourself from the sun. It can also get pretty windy so something like sunglasses can also help you avoid getting sand in your eyes or on your face. Specifically, the top of Mount Kynthos is extremely windy so hold onto your belongings if you decide to hike up to see the views!

Tip #5: Wear Closed-Toe Shoes
The ground on Delos alternates from a paved walkway to loose gravel to uneven rocks in some places. Because the ground can be so uneven we would recommend wearing sneakers or closed-toe shoes for the day. This way you don’t have to worry about walking on rocks or dirt paths.
- The stairs up to Mount Kynthos were very narrow and rocky. Sneakers made them much more doable, especially when trying to balance in the wind!
