The Salar de Uyuni, or Uyuni Salt Flat, is one of the main reasons we were so excited to go to Bolivia. The Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat in the world about 550 kilometers south of La Paz. Is La Paz, Bolivia Worth Visiting?
When planning our trip to Bolivia, we quickly realized there was not as much information about it as there is about the more popular destinations of Peru, Argentina and Chile. Many travelers visit Peru for close access to hikes and Incan ruins. While there is no second Machu Picchu in Bolivia, there is very similar terrain and many beautiful locations. Waking up on Day 3 of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu we felt like we had completed the hardest part! Day 2 and Dead Woman’s Pass was behind us as well as the pouring rain. We woke up to a very foggy but not raining morning and we were all thankful. One of the things we were most worried about during our trip to Peru was Day 2 of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. It is the most strenuous hiking day as well as the day you hike to the highest altitude.
